Old pallet as a gate for the stairs instead of store bought ones ... Needs a coat of paint or some sanding. I don't like that it looks dirty.

These were the three products that gave me the look I desired.  Minwax Gel Stain in Walnut, Burnt Umber semi opaque craft paint, and Minwax Wipe On Poly.

Staining an Oak Banister

Update an oak banister by staining it. I used Polyshades Bombay Mahogany. The beauty of Polyshades is that it’s stain and poly all in one. I did NOT sand, prime or do any prep to my railings, I simply brushed on the Polyshades to darken and deepen the color of the stain.
