Roger Chaffee (1935 - 1967) Astronaut, died in a fire on the launch pad while strapped into the Apollo 1 capsule for a test. He posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal, Purple Heart and the US Navy Air Medal.

Loren Eiseley (1907 - 1977) Anthropologist, naturalist, Philosopher. Studied North American anthropology and the evolution of cultures. Called the "heir apparent" to Henry David Thoreau. Known for the philosophical work "The Immense Journey", published in 1975.
