James "Jimi" Hendrix (11/27/1942 -9/18/1970) was an American singer, songwriter / possibly the greatest electric guitarist in the history of rock music. Born in Seattle, WA. In the Army from 1961-62, he then moved to TN and began playing gigs. Worked w Little Richard (thru mid-1965); moved to England in '66 / soon had 3 UK top ten hits. Famous later in US too; played Woodstock in '69 / Isle of Wight in '70 before his accidental death from drug overdose in 1970 at age 27.
