1913 - After parcel post service was introduced in 1913, at least two children were sent by the service. With stamps attached to their clothing, the children rode with railway and city carriers to their destination. The Postmaster General quickly issued a regulation forbidding the sending of children in the mail after hearing of those examples.

Museum of London: The Great Fire of London, after Jan Griffier the Elder, c. 1675. This painting creates a very dramatic impression of what the fire was like. .. probably represents the fire on the night of Tuesday 4 September. Newgate was a prison so the prisoners were marched out under armed guard to safety in Southwark, but some escaped on the way.
