Normandy. I once shared a hospital room with an old guy who told me: - I did not even get my feet wet at Normandy - How come? (I said) - I belonged to a corps of engineers and got there a few days later in big trucks. However, during the battle of the bulge he was given a bazooka and something like 5 minutes training and he was told to shoot basically at anything that moved. In that same room I met a tail gunner who was shot down and confined to a camp of POWs. He said he was treated well.

Robert Capa, captured troops after landing at Normandy, This picture is visually pleasing and just plain cool for someone who loves war history myself. The German soldier with his hand over his face shows how disgraceful it was to be captured at the time.

Chicago Car Elevator c. 1936

Vertical parking, This was an “elevator garage” in Chicago, 33 W. It held up to 48 cars. Workers simply drove into the elevator car, parked in their sky-high slots, then walked along the fire escape to their offices. No way !
