This is the Gerrardstown Presbyterian Church in Gerrardstown, Berkeley County, West Virginia. Many of our Aikens family members grew up in Gerrardstown and are buried in the Cemetery behind this church. It is amazing to see the Aikens family name all over. John Aikens, son of George, and father of James William Aikens, is buried here with his wife Ann Hott Aikens, and many, many family members.
For 225 years, Rehoboth Church has been sitting in the bottom of a dimple in Monroe County, W.Va.’s rolling hills, hidden to road travelers. Built when Shawnee Indians raided the region, the log church is sited so that no one can slip within rifle-shot range unseen. Some say it was built to double as a fort, or at least a refuge. - See more at: http://blueridgecountry.com/travel/blue-ridge-parkway/oldest-church-alleghenies-225/#sthash.LMFO8CnC.dpuf
