Laura Plantation House, Vacherie, Louisiana ~ The original house was completed in 1805 by Guillame Duparc, built in a U-shape with the customary detached kitchen; it has undergone many changes through the years. The Duparc family farmed over 12,000 acres of sugarcane, with a sugar mill about 1 mile from the main house. The property changed hands in 1891, continuing as a working plantation into the 20th century. On the National Register of Historic Places, the plantation is open for tours.
