Franz Reichelt (1879-1912) a.k.a. the Flying Tailor, was a tailor, inventor and parachuting pioneer. He had become fixated on developing a suit for aviators. Finally convinced of his own design he asked the Parisian Police permission to conduct a test by jumping from the Eiffel Tower. This photograph shows Reichelt before he jumped to his death.
This has intrigued me for a while. A wall of death, in a car, with a lion in a sidecar. And then you look at the crowd and realise, there are people who are not particularly interested. What would it take? The lion on the motorbike?
