Arlington, WA named for the Arlington National Cemetery was founded in 1903. Situated on the Stillaguamish River, the area had been camp ground for the Coast Salish people from prehistoric times. Europeans began arriving around 1851. Platted in 1890, two rival towns sprung up the second called Haller City. With the railroad depot in Arlington, the smaller community gave up and the two towns incorporated as one in 1903. Division Street still marks the dividing line.
