Terry Fox . . . A Canadian Hero.  My father who is an amputee, and still worked hard to provide for his family no matter how hard it was for him.
On Sept. 1, 1980, amputee Terry Fox was forced to stop his 5,000-mile run across Canada for cancer research after it was discovered that his bone cancer had spread to his lungs. He died 10 months later, but not before realizing his dream of raising one dollar for every person in Canada.
Rick Hansen, he started a movement that changed the lives of many disabled people.

Terrance Stanley "Terry" Fox CC OD (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) Cdn athlete, humanitarian, cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, embarked on cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Run lasted 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 mi), and stopped due to cancer, ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, in 60 + raising over C$500 million has been raised in his name.
