Abbas II Hilmi Bey (Abbas Hilmi Pasha) 1874 – 1944), the last Khedive of Egypt and Sudan 1892 – 1914. He established a sound system of native justice, the great remission of taxation, the reconquest of Sudan, the inauguration of the substantial irrigation works at Aswan, and the increase of cheap, sound education. The United Kingdom declared Egypt an independent Sultanate under British protectorate on 18 December 1914 and deposed Abbas. He died in Geneva 19 December 1944.

Princess Fawzia of Egypt and Sudan married Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (1919-1980), the Crown Prince of Iran, in Cairo, on 16 March 1939. This is her official engagement photograph. She was the sister of King Farouk I of Egypt. Date: 1939
