St. Louis of France. Louis IX (25 April 1214 – 25 August 1270), King of France. On 6 April 1250 Louis lost his army at the Battle of Fariskur & was captured by the Egyptians. Released from Egyptian captivity, Louis spent 4 years in Acre, Caesarea & Jaffa. He used his wealth to assist the Crusaders in rebuilding their defences & conducting diplomacy with Islamic powers of Syria & Egypt. Louis left a significant garrison in the city of Acre for its defence against Islamic attacks. YBH
