The 20 Most Terrifying Non-Horror Books You'll Ever Read

List of 20 Terrifying Non Horror Books You'll Ever Read

This is a fantastic book about how a family functions in less then ideal conditions put upon them by their parents. Truly a great read.

The Glass Castle. When your children whine that there's never anything in the house to eat or you never get them anything.....have them read this book. They will survive....and hopefully grow into self sufficient, successful adults, like Jeannette.

I Capture the Castle Book by Dodie Smith, First Edition Peacock Book, Paperback, Published by Penguin Books, 1963, 01270

Lovely and hard to find First Edition copy of the Peacock Books paperback edition of "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith. This author is best known for her famous "101 Dalmatians" book, but she also wrote this delightful novel for teenagers, first published in 1949, about 17 year old Cassandra Mortmain and her eccentric family who live in an old castle. The book is a paperback with 324 pages and measures 7 x 4.25in / 18 x 11cm. The front and back covers are beautifully illustrated and there are also illustrations at the beginning of the three sections (corresponding be to the different notebooks Cassandra is writing in!) It is in very good vintage condition - the pages are slightly yellowed with age, but in great condition with no marks or tears and just a very slight crease which affects the first ten or so pages (see photo 2). The covers are also very good - there is just a tiny scuff / split at the top of the spine where it adjoins the back cover (see photo 3). A rare find, especially in such good condition, and a wonderful and timeless story.

The Distant Hours: This book is amazing, it's beautifully written, and the way she writes pulls you into another world.
