WW1: German KIA months after he died. WW1 battlefields were huge open death pits -- the dead were rarely retrieved on time for a decent burial. Brief ceasefires agreed locally could only allow for the rescue of the wounded. As late as the 1990s, mummified KIAs were being discovered in caves and other locations in the old battlefields.
