The Rock of Cashel is the Ireland's most spectacular archaeological site. The 'Rock' is a prominent green hill, banded with limestone outcrops. It rises from a grassy plain on the edge of the town and bristles with ancient fortifications.
Kirby Hall is an Elizabethan country house, located near Gretton, Northamptonshire, England. The nearest main town is Corby. The building and gardens are owned by The Earl of Winchilsea, and managed by English Heritage.
The beautiful Doune Caste near Stirling sstood in for the fictional Castle Leoch, the home of Colum MMacKenzie. It's run by Historic Scotland, like many of the locations, so there is a small entry fee unless you become a member. The castle has a lovely feel to it and a certain Sam Heughan speaks on the audio tour!
