Buy organic Romaine. Then when you chop up the lettuce for salad, hang on to the very bottom/heart/stump. Leave a few inches from the bottom of the heart and place in a container of water. With a little time, it will eventually sprout a whole new head of lettuce, ready to harvest, eat, and repeat the process. Change the water daily and keep in sunlight.
