Despite the different materials, the house looks uniform because the two wings are structurally identical. In between the two wings an enclosed breezeway houses the kitchen, dining and living in one open space. “It is flanked by two wings with traditional pitched roofs,” says Hodgskin. “They talk to each other in form and the bit in between is really the minimum we could do to link them.”

Beyond the breezeway, the spaces become markedly partisan - masculine and feminine. There’s more to the two wings than just different design preferences, however. The ‘masculine’ wing is clad in corrugated iron with eaves overhanging to provide shelter at the home’s entrance. “This is a reference to a modern interpretation of a meeting house,” says Hodgskin. “It wasn’t in the brief but responds to the majesty of the landscape– a double-height covered area that you arrive at.”

i love this idea of having two small 'houses' connected by a closed in breezeway. living & kitchen on one side and rooms on the other side

This extraordinary modern farmhouse has been designed by Olsen Studios, located just West of Preston Hollow, a neighborhood outside of Dallas, Texas.

Holy Moly...top of the list! Everything in one place...I see living quarters & 3 studios working well with this layout & design. "Barns Inspire a Modern Farm Compound exterior by Gast Architects"
