Her face was but a momentary relief upon his drowning heart. Like the fading sunset beyond the horizon disappearing into the deserted road, he was far too gone to be saved by anybody. His sins were like an anchor dragging him to the bottom of the ocean. The only thing that could save him was himself. His screams would fall upon the echoes of the surrounding silence, and the only way out was if he swam with all his might, gave all the air he had left in his lungs and reached for safety.
