Letter Detective: Write the upper and lower case letters on a post-it or index card. Get a magazine or create a page of letters on the computer and have her search for the letter. Give her a highlighter to highlight the letters when she finds them. Could also give her a magnifying glass for fun. If making a letter page, use target letter often at first then less. Later, she can look for common words like 'the', 'and', 'you', 'is', 'my' and 'to'
Beginner Sight Words Letter Match. Write sight words from a book the child is reading. Write matching letters on clothes pins. Pinching the pins works on the intrinsic muscles (the small muscles within the hand) that are so important for strength and endurance when writing and coloring. Strengthening these muscles with a pinching activity like this one helps to encourage an open web space (the space between the thumb an index finger) in the hand when holding a pencil.
