Kreppel for Fastnacht! Pretty much the same as the Polish pączki (pronounced PUNCH-kie). It’s a traditional Polish (& German) pastry made before the start of Lent to use up all the eggs, lard, sugar and fruit in the house. In fact, Fat Tuesday is sometimes referred to as Pączki Day. My mom made these all the time & would fill them with a prune pie-like filling. Yup... prunes. But not one of my siblings, friends or I complained. We loved them!
