Rose Bertin-1747-1813. From humble beginnings to the marchande de robes to a Queen. She became the fashion designer to Marie Antoinette in 1774. She had an elegant shop, Le Grand Mongol, on the fashionable Rue Saint Honore. It was her creativity that made Marie Antoinette and many other French women of rank, trendsetters all over Europe. She transformed the fashion industry and is generally thought of as the world's first fashion designer who became a star on her own.

Marie-Jeanne Rose Bertin (1747 – 1813) was a French milliner and dressmaker to Queen Marie Antoinette. She was the first celebrated French fashion designer and is in my opinion a genious!! I would have loved to wear one of her creations! She doesn't get enough credit.
