She was instrumental in organizing The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. In 1935, She was invited to join Purdue University as a visiting faculty member in their aviation department where she counseled women on careers in aviation. In 1937, she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting a circumnavigational flight of the globe.
