Artist Point lies at the conclusion of Highway 542 just outside of Bellingham. During the winter and snow-filled spring, the road can go no further than the Mount Baker Ski Resort’s upper lodge, and as such, Artist Point is left peacefully resting above, only accessible to backcountry skiers trudging up the slopes.
Mt Baker, Washington I spent a lot of time on this mountain hiking with my family and skiing. I was blessed to see the sunrise over Mt Baker on clear mornings for 35 years of my life while I lived in Lynden.
The 5.5-mile Chain Lakes Trail begins at the end of the road, traverses Table Mountain, and passes a series of alpine lakes. Beyond this, the trail climbs over Herrmann Saddle, enters the Bagley Lakes basin, and ends near the Mt. Baker Ski Area. For a return loop, take the Wild Goose Trail back to Artist Point. http://www.moon.com/destinations/washington/north-cascades/mount-baker/recreation/hiking/heather-meadows-hikes
