While investigating a stream of water that shot three feet into the air like a drinking fountain I discovered the source a gaper clam; then I came across the creature in this photo. The eye-catching siphons belong to a piddock (Penitella penita). ____  Piddocks are bivalves similar to clams. Their shells are edged with teeth that they use to burrow into rock.
