The Gables belonged to Miss Cortie and Miss Lettie Nutt 1910. It is ironic that a southern aristocratic widow from Louisiana would end up in the wilderness of Sanibel Island, but for Laetitia Ashmore Nutt, life was about moving on. Although born into lives of affluence, Laetitia and her daughters worked hard while contributing significantly to the needs of the community. Their homestead, now known as Gray Gables,served as a place of refuge.
