Among the most pressing challenges facing the world today is feeding a growing global population projected to increase from over 7 billion currently to over 9 billion by 2050. This challenge is compounded by the additional threats of climate change, increasing water and land scarcity, soil and land degradation, and a deteriorating natural resource base, threats that will mainly hurt the world’s poor and vulnerable, especially those living in rural areas. #IYFF10
It is possible to increase agricultural productivity and food security while halting or even reversing deforestation, highlighting the successful efforts of Costa Rica, Chile, the Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Tunisia and Viet Nam.
