90 Points nose: light oak; taste: medium-bodied mouth feel, blackberry fruit taste, satiny smooth finish with lots of anise flavor; overall: modern and balanced, displays depth, reasonable QPR ($16) and worth buying more of at that price
Monday, February 06, 2012 - nose: Stayman apple x Bartlett pear; taste: bright flinty apple taste, no sweetness, clean mineral short-duration finish; overall: this wine reminds me of Meryl Streep -- gutsy, focused, versatile, surprising, and charming -- and good either by itself or paired with food (chicken florentine, in our case), decent QPR ($13) and worth buying more of.
90 Points Tuesday, April 10, 2012 - color: medium shade of purple; nose: faint oak x cherry cola; taste: lots of happy -- medium-bodied mouth feel, fruity black cherry taste, medium-length tobacco-tinged finish with very smooth tannins; overall: Anne Hathaway as a wine -- young, modern, attractive, balanced, together, not overly complex; reasonable QPR ($20)
Friday, March 30, 2012 - color: medium-purple x ruby red; nose: fresh-smelling oak; taste: medium-bodied mouth feel, fruity berry taste well balanced with oak, thunder-bringing deep full finish tasting of smoky tobacco; overall: sophisticated Old World beauty for about $20
Delicious, modern-tasting white wine, which I would have pegged for an Alsatian riesling; it paired well with raclette, and also would be fine to accompany hors d'oeuvres. It is worth seeking out. 88 points.
