Arequipa is guarded by three dramatic volcanoes, the city enjoys a resplendent, if seismically precarious setting – earthquakes sometimes occur in this area, the last big one causing significant damage in 2001.
Ollantaytambo, Peru The Incas built it as a fort that included a temple, agricultural terraces, and an urban area. There are two distinct sectors: Araqama Ayllu, the religious and worship zone, and Qosqo Ayllu, the residential area. Ollantaytambo was an important administrative center with probable military functions if one considers the walls and towers. There are also traces of ancient roads and aqueducts.

In 2000 Arequipa's City Center earned a well-deserved Unesco World Heritage listing and the sight of the huge cathedral, with a montainous skyline rising behind it. It is worth a visit with one of our Vacations to Peru.
The Nazca lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. Their purpose remains unknown. The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, & lizards. The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the reddish pebbles & uncovering the whitish/grayish ground beneath. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. #mytumblr
