Lorrain Daum : French art deco chandelier. A beautiful 1925-30 pendant light. The nickel on bronze mounting holds a large shade in moulded-pressed glass by Daum signed Lorrain Nancy France. Refered to as Laterne Versailles in the old Lorrain catalogue of the Daum Cie. (paravas - ebay)
The picture was exhibited by Duplessis at the Salon of 1777, where it was admired for its truthfulness and the delicate treatment of the draperies. In his copy of the Salon catalogue, Gabriel de Saint-Aubin made a small sketch which has permitted the identification of the sitter.
