A study published on the 15th of March 2010 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism shows that a single nights sleep deprivation induces insulin resistance in healthy people.A total of 9 people  were studied.  It was shown that when sleep was restricted to 4 hours basal levels of glucose, nonesterified fatty acids, insulin, or endogenous glucose production were not affected.It was  shown however that the sleep restriction did decrease hepatic insulin resistance.
