Ellen Jewett makes incredible sculpture which may find its origins between mythical children’s books and horror stories. Her animals are elegant and meditative, but appear to be dissipating before our eyes. Jewett is inspired by her rich background including experience in anthropology, medical illustration, and exotic animal care. These passions are seen clearly in her devotion to biology, peacefully dissecting her characters and merging them with their natural environments.
More than ever before, the language of food is today intertwined with the poetry of fashion. And with her simple yet wonderful drawings, the young illustrator Gretchen Roehrs is revealing new possibilities for this combination.
