This is a picture of Karl Silberbauer. He was the officer that found and captured Anne Frank in the Secret Annex at 263 Prinsengracht Street in Amsterdam where the Frank family was hiding. Silberbauer worked for the Gestapo. His job was to transfer non-Jews who helped Jews to concentration camps. He arrested the eight of them and took them to Gestapo headquarters, from which they were sent to concentration camps.
One of the most famous photos taken during the Holocaust shows Jewish families arrested by Nazis during the destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland, and sent to be gassed at Treblinka extermination camp. This picture and over 50 others were taken by the Nazis to chronicle the successful destruction of the Ghetto.
This is the headquarters of the Nazi Security Police and Security Services in the Euterpestraat in Amsterdam. Miep Gies goes there a few days later to try to get the people from the Annex released. She does not succeed.
