Moira Smith, the NYPD officer who rescued people from the WTC, went back to get more and was killed when the south tower collapsed. She was the only female police officer to die on 9/11. BRAVE WOMAN! Rest her soul
9/11 Firefighter Photo: John Labriola While most able-bodied occupants of the north tower fled down stairwells to safety, firefighters such as Mike Kehoe (pictured) headed up to help the wounded. Kehoe's Ladder 11 firehouse lost six men that day, but he survived to face a life forever changed not only by 9/11 but by the iconic image in which he unwittingly appeared. "In some ways Mike Kehoe came to symbolize the firefighters," Chanin said. Published September 8, 2011

from another pinner--"why isn’t this the most famous photo from 9/11 instead of the falling man? isn’t 2 people holding hands after jumping more significant than 1 man? it makes me wonder what the story is behind this photo, were they friends or lovers? or just strangers who were too scared to jump alone? it shows that people need a helping hand even in their final moments."
