Fall color on Grand Sable Lake

Big Sabel Point, Ludington State Park, Michigan. At the end of a mile and a half foot trail through the Ludington dunes, you will find a tower and attached keeper's dwelling open to the public. Climb to the top of the 112 foot lighthouse .

Little Sable Point, 1874, Mears, Michigan. 139 steps. Natural brick coloration made tower difficult to see during daylight hours, so it was painted white in 1900 and thereafter until 1977 and then sandblasted.

Little Sable Point Light on Lake Michigan. Located near White Hall, Michigan in Silver Lake Sand Dunes State Park. Built in 1874, the 107-foot high tower is known as a 'Poe Lighthouse', after its designer Orlando Poe. [photo: Jason Mrachina]
