VERBIER - SWITZERLAND Like Chamonix, Verbier is a magnet for extreme skiers, to get the best out of this place, hire a guide and hit the off-piste. This is not a great on-piste resort but people say one of the best challenging areas in the world. I only came here for a day and didn't really get the best out of it.
CHAMONIX - FRANCE It goes with out saying, Chamonix sets the standard for extreme skiing and boarding. My family has a chalet in the valley. Nowhere in world has alpine scenery like this with such towering mountains and endless off-piste. Shame everyone else knows about it. In order to get the best, only come when you've got the skills and hire a guide if funds allow.
MONT SAINTE ANNE - QUEBEC One of the largest ski areas in Eastern Canada, Mont Sainte Anne has decent on-piste skiing that will keep most people occupied for a few days. Great views over the St Lawrence river and very close to the charming Quebec City making a city break possible too.
TIGNES - FRANCE The ugly sister of neighbouring Val D'Isere shares the same world class ski area but has more affordable accommodation and a less charming resort atmosphere. Still a great place though with arguably the better half of the Espace Killy ski area.
