A treasure worth killing for. Sam Spade, a slightly shopworn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics. A perfumed grafter named Joel Cairo, a fat man name Gutman, and Brigid O'Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime. These are the ingredients of Dashiell Hammett's coolly glittering gem of detective fiction, a novel that has haunted three generations of readers. NOV 2014
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, Review: What do you look for in a story? If it's abduction, intrigue, treachery, false identity, family secrets, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins delivers! I once read that The Woman in White could be the first mystery, and it is based of a court case.
This book has got to be the most treacherous portrayal of conniving woman. I truly believe this book shall be made into a movie along with its predecessors: Still Dirty, Dirtier than Ever, and the not yet released Low Down and Dirty. I could hardly keep this book down!!
Robin Schone's The Lover is the first in a two-part historical romance/erotica series & I really enjoyed it. It's worth finding in paperback. I'd heard good things about the second book "Gabriel's Woman" but I hate to read series out of order, so I had to find this book. Anne/Michael both captivated me & the b-story of treachery was quite well done (so well done, I almost wanted to rush they romance for resolution). 4 stars. books read 2012. novel
