I couldn't bring myself to purchase a headlight restoration kit for $30+ for my '99 Corolla. Instead, here's what I did: 1. Wash headlights; 2. Use painters tape and tape around headlights to protect paint; 3. Use 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and scour headlights; 4. Rinse and dry headlights; 5. Apply car wax on headlights and let dry; and 6. Use a cotton rag to buff car wax. I repeated car wax application twice. What a huge difference and less than $10.

Headlight restoration is not very difficult to do but it does require some skill and time. There are many methods of cleaning and restoring your headlights.
