Glass Artist Josh Simpson of Shelburne, MA (apparently no relation to Vollis Simpson of whirligig fame) does these intricate, multi-layered "inhabited vases". Recently I saw one of his 2004 versions in the collection of The Huntsville (AL) Museum of Art. Also, REALLY like the "Planets" shown on his web site: http://www.megaplanet.com/gallery2/v/planets/.
