Tangkas falls into two categories—Guotang, which is made with silk cloth by embroidering, weaving, patching or printing, and Zhitang, which is painted onto canvas with dyes. Ludwig Bemelmans Madeline. When I was very young his illustrations made me want to illustrate children's books some day.  Still love his combination of lineart and soft color and the way he  used negative space to make a statement on some pages but filled others with a rich background.
