I took photos of friends, co-workers, people I just met at a bar, and landscapes during the rain. And with each pull of the 3 x 4 inch film through the rollers and enduring the waiting process of anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes followed by the final reveal, I saw faces light up in people who were never even into the arts.
Film is not dead. It has been re-purposed for shooting when I want to slow down and wander the city looking for arty images. Which one do I prefer? For speed, convenience, and cost, digital. For getting back to the roots of photography, film.
I’m extremely excited to bring a new face to the staff of The Phoblographer. When Andy Hendriksen applied to be a staffer, the entire staff was wow’d immediately by him. He’s a fantastic photographer that I personally believe puts many natural light shooters to shame, he’s an audio technician, and he can write.
Now first off, I don’t want to scare anyone with this post; and I often tell people that they should focus on trying to create media that people will want to steal instead of worrying about theft of their current portfolio.
The Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC SP for Canon EF mount, however, landed in my hands for two weeks. Tamron is an extremely solid third party lens manufacturer and they create some terrific sleeper lenses that otherwise get overlooked by those of the larger brands.
