Moai at Rano Raraku on Easter Island, pre-European. The 887 mysterious monumental heads of ancestors made by the Rapa Nui people are dotted throughout the island but all appear to have been carved at the quarry of Rano Raraku where half of them still reside including these examples. Civil strife on the island is thought to be the reason these were not transported elsewhere.
