Explore Phlox, Cabbage Butterfly and more!

Phlox (blue creeping). I simply adore phlox, and have used some of it for "my" sidewalk garden--people are trying to keep their dogs from using the sidewalk garden, which is nice!) AIM to plant phlox in a container, and have it melt over the side. :) Such a beautiful creeper.

Friday April 6th, 2012: FULL PINK MOON -This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

Phlox have been country garden favourites for years because of their delicious scent and attraction to butterflies and bees. This variety bears fabulous trusses of fragrant, hydrangea-like violet flowers with broad petals and deep purple eyes. They appear from July to August on tall stems with narrow, toothed, mid-green leaves. This pretty perennial will tolerate full sun or partial shade, but like all phlox, does not like soil that dries out in summer.
