Lew Ayres (born Lewis Frederick Ayres III; December 28, 1908 – December 30, 1996) was an American actor. He was nominated for Best Actor for Johnny Belinda. All Quiet on the Western Front, State Fair, Holiday, Ice Follies of 1939, Maisy Was a Lady, Dark Mirror, Don't Bet on Love, Dr. Kildare movie series. In WWII, he was a conscientious objector, later serving as a combat medic. After the war, his career never achieved its previous heights.
