So true. Often times the bullies and the kids who act out are so deprived of positive attention and reinforcement they will do anything for any type of attention. It takes a special teacher to get to the heart of these kids and make a difference in their lives.
I have a daughter now, and one of my greatest fears is getting her through those tumultuous, insecure, awkward middle and high school years with her sense of confidence intact. I would love to protect her from every mean girl, every unkind word, and every sting of rejection possible. However, I recognize not only the impossibility of that, but also the lack of wisdom in doing so.
Sometimes I give up when I think that a more talented person could do what I'm doing but better. But hard work can also be something that gives you a lot of satisfaction if you work at the things you love.
