Palo Duro ala Georgia. Quilt in the style of a favorite artist. This is an adeptation of a photo of Palo Duro Canyon in the style of Georgia O'Keefe. Research found that she taught a year at the community college in the area, and viewed these same hills. Painted and thread sketching.
Christmas Cactus. What fun and unusual shapes! This is three dimentional, the leaves are inserted in the background stripes. The inner blossom is a tube of fabric and the petals are also dimentional. I dyed the pink.
Coiled Fern. The challenge was to incorporate a Zipper into the design. My inspiration was the ferns emerging in my spring garden. The zippers were disected, twisted, coiled and glued to the quilt surface. Textural quilting. Commercial batik background.
Blue Jay. A class sample for Thread Painting. I did use a piece of the blue fabric to establish a color background, but then all the wing and tail detail was added with layers of thread. Contrast was a low in spots . . a bit of ink always helps when the fabric doesn't cooperate. Approximately 12 x 14 inches. Note the thread painted feather in the border.
The Challenge was groups....Did you know a group of crows is called a murder of crows? Acrylic paint stenciled on fabric, some with matt medium, some with gloss. Thread painted branches. The word is also stenciled in just medium and thread.
