Water pollution experiment @ Getting Messy with Ms. Jessi. Collect litter from playground, put in a covered jar of water for a few days, and observe what happens. Simple experiment but one your students will remember!
Living Non Living Freebie
My kindergarten classroom and mentor teacher love singing and integrating music into the classroom so I thought this would be something to consider adding into my unit. It helps students remember what they are learning by having the information be presented into a song rather than just writing it down or me telling them what it means. I like using this also because I would be able to let my students have their own copy of the songs as well.
Teachable moment ~ thanks to a roly poly infestation!
This is a great interactive activity that I am considering on using for part of my lesson. The website gives plenty of ideas for a living and nonliving unit. I liked that they were able to explore outside and fill out a tree that tells about different kinds of living things and how they are considered living. I will really think about using this type of final project for my own lesson because I believe it would make my final assessment easier and I can see what my students learned.
Gummy Worms VS Earth Worms
I really liked this paper that students could fill out while making their investigations between the living earth worm and the nonliving gummy worm. Some of my students might not be able to fill this out on their own but by November they may be able to with some guidance. I think this would be a great way for students to investigate and remember which is living and which is nonliving.
I like the two "posters" that are included in this pin. I think this might be a great way to help students remember what a living thing is and what makes it a living thing. These are things that I can hang up in my classroom if my mentor teacher doesn't mind so that they are constantly being reminded of these ideas.
Print & Play with Living and Non Living Things
Wow. This was a great pin that I found. It provides me with different methods of teaching this lesson to my students. They have sorts, coloring pages, dry erase marker pages, and way more for students to work on during my unit. It makes the overall lesson more interesting for students and also provides me with multiple types of assessments as well.
Plants are Living Things Project
This is a fun art project that would help students remember that plants are also living things since that seemed to be a common misconceptions that all of my students had on my pre assessment. This would be a great way for students to understand why plants are living things such as they need food, water, and they grow and reproduce.
