Place the base of a rose cutting in a potato and then bury the potato in the soil. The potato will keep the cutting uniformly moist until it has a chance to roots - neat idea. - Burying bananas with your new rose bushes gives them a great start (thank you Judith) and since bananas and potatoes are each great sources of potassium this makes sense too - I would also add bananas.
