Jane Brocket is an internet crush of mine. Her Yarnstorm was the first blog I stumbled upon many years ago. I didn't know what a blog was...

Great idea: "For this blanket, Jane used double moss stitch and knit five "scarves" that were then sewn into one big blanket." Find a scarf pattern (or two) and then make scarves in to a blanket. More interesting than knitting a whole blanket!

Ravelry: Happy Blocks Baby Blanket pattern by Kennita Tully - Probably wouldn't do it all in garter, though.

Intarsia blocks worked in six cheerful colors pop against a neutral gray background in a fun, modern design.

Patchwork Garter Baby Throw, a very easy knit project for the beginner knitter

Image of Patchwork Garter Baby Throw - this is knit, but could do similar with single or double crochet squares. LOVE these colors (Lion Brand Baby Wool - colors listed with pattern)
