Pictured is a tumbling tapestry of natives at Ayrlies in Auckland, including gold drifts of Libertia peregrinans, mounds of clipped Muehlenbeckia astonii with Coprosma acerosa hybrids in the foreground. ‘Hawera’ is my favourite green – a stringy, mossy duvet of texture that contrasts well with Coprosma acerosa brunnea, the deepest brown cultivar. Coprosmas root as they go, so can be usefully propagated by spade.
