Vivan Maier was a nanny with a great passion for photography. She is well known for her street photography in New Work. Later in life, she struggled financially, so rather than developing her negatives she hoarded them in a box that she kept in a storage. The contents in the locker was auction off. In 2007 the box was purchased from a Chicago thrift auction, and amazing images was discovered.

Images from Vivian Maier's Undeveloped Rolls: Vivian Maier was a nanny on Chicago's North Shore. Maier died unknown in 2009. She left behind about 120,000 negatives. ‘‘That rare case of a genuine undiscovered artist, she left behind a huge trove of pictures that rank her with the great American midcentury street photographers,’’ said Michael Kimmelman, the New York Times critic. ‘‘The best pictures bring to life a fantastic swath of history that now needs to be rewritten to include her.’’
